Antequera

Antequera is one of the closest and most convenient day trips from Villanueva del Trabuco — just 30–31 km away. The drive takes only 30–40 minutes via the A-45 and local roads through rolling Andalusian countryside. It’s an easy, pleasant route with minimal traffic. Buses are available but driving is ideal for flexibility.

• Driving & Parking: Antequera is compact and walkable. There is good central parking (including underground options near the historic center and free spots). The Parador hotel area also has parking if you want views.
• Best Time: Leave Villanueva del Trabuco by 8:30–9:00 AM for a relaxed full day. Antequera is less crowded than Granada or Málaga.
• Essentials: Comfortable walking shoes (some hills to the Alcazaba), sun protection, and layered clothing — it can be cooler at nearby El Torcal.

Antequera offers a wonderful mix of prehistoric wonders, Moorish history, Renaissance architecture, and dramatic natural landscapes — all in a compact, authentic package. It feels less touristy than the bigger cities but is equally rewarding.
