The Costa del Sol is the famous sunny coastline stretching east and west of Málaga. From Villanueva del Trabuco, it’s very accessible. A great one-day focus is the central/western stretch, particularly Marbella and Puerto Banús — about 95–100 km away. The drive takes roughly 60–75 minutes via the A-45 and AP-7 motorway. This gives you a perfect mix of beach vibes, luxury, charming old town, and Mediterranean scenery. Driving is strongly recommended for flexibility.
Morning: Marbella Old Town & BeachArrive in Marbella and start with its beautiful Casco Antiguo (Old Town). Wander the whitewashed streets, flower-filled plazas (like Plaza de los Naranjos), and charming boutiques. Climb up to the old walls for views, then head to the long sandy beachfront promenade for a relaxed walk with the sea on one side. If you want to swim early, stop at one of the central beaches.
Late Morning / Early Afternoon: Puerto BanúsDrive or take a short taxi (5–10 minutes) to the glamorous Puerto Banús marina. Admire the superyachts, luxury cars, designer shops, and vibrant atmosphere. Stroll the waterfront, people-watch, and enjoy the upscale yet fun energy. It’s the iconic heart of Costa del Sol glamour. Grab a coffee or early aperitif here.
Lunch: Seafood & AtmosphereEnjoy fresh Mediterranean seafood. Good options include beachfront chiringuitos in Marbella, or spots around Puerto Banús like fresh fish, paella, or espeto de sardinas. Areas like the marina or Old Town have plenty of choices — from casual to upscale.
Afternoon: Beach Time & PromenadeSpend relaxed time on the beach — swim in the clear waters, rent a lounger, or walk the long Marbella Promenade. If you prefer variety, drive a short distance to nearby spots like San Pedro de Alcántara or Estepona (further west, about 20–30 extra minutes) for a more low-key beach feel. The whole coastline offers golden sands and great views of the mountains meeting the sea.
Late Afternoon / Evening Options
Dinner & ReturnHave dinner with sea views — fresh fish, tapas, or international cuisine in Marbella or Puerto Banús. Then drive back to Villanueva del Trabuco (about 1–1.25 hours). Aim to leave by 8–9 PM.
This day gives you the classic Costa del Sol experience: beaches, glamour, good food, and that laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle. It’s more relaxed than the intense history focus of Granada or Antequera.
